The Marauder Innovation Learning Lab (MiLL)

In September of 2016, Mount Olive High School opened its doors to a state of the art Makerspace entitled, "The Marauder Innovation Learning Lab" (MiLL). The MiLL is comprised of three distinct yet interconnected learing and exploration modules: the ThinkerSpace, the Workshop, and the Makerbot Innovation Center.

In both the ThinkerSpace and workshop, students have the opportunity to collaborate and create prototypes of their designs.  Students learn about the design process: research, ideation, sketching, prototyping, testing, and iterating.  They have access to a wide variety of tools to make their vision become a reality.

The MakerBot Innovation Center allows students to use software programs and one of the 33 MakerBot 3D printers to print their products.  Mount Olive High School is the only secondary school in the world to feature a MakerBot Innovation Center, offering students the opportunity and resources for "Making What's Next!"

There is no doubt the MiLL has become preeminent in STEAM education and a 21 century college and career readiness facility.

The Workshop is equipped with a wide variety of benchtop tools, hand tools, prototyping and creative supplies.  Mobile workbenches provide students with practical work space.

A wall-length white board provides students and staff with a large area for discussion, planning, brainstorming, and presentations.

The Thinkerspace holds a conference table as well as comfortable, mobile seating for small group meetings and presentations, and a quiet place to stop and consider.  Glass dry erase walls serve as additional writing and sketching space.
